Objectives:
- Provide a cultural immersion environment with American teens
- Improve oral skills and language comprehension
- Practice a wide range of sports, plastic, visual and performing arts
- Gain a better understanding of the American Camp culture
Who: Students between 10 to 16 years of age
When: July and August (minimum 3 weeks)
Where: Camp is 2 hours from Boston
Lodging: Cabins with American students of the same age
Program Description:
Located in coastal Rhode Island, this 65-acre traditional co-educational summer camp for boys and girls ages 7-16 is ideal for saltwater activities such as sailing, windsurfing, marine biology, waterskiing, as well as traditional camp activities. Located just 2 hours from Boston and Logan International and 45 minutes from Providence. Campers select their preferred first week activities prior to arriving at camp, and then each week thereafter. Campers are then assigned a personalized schedule to encourage integration with their American peers.
Accommodations:
Campers live with their counselors in one of four divisions: two for boys and two for girls. Each division consists of seven to nine cabins with typically eight campers and two staff per cabin. The cabins and divisions are important family-like structures. Boys and girls participate in the same activities but stay in separate cabins. The camp has medical staff and 24 hour emergency service.
Daily Activities:
There are eight 45 minute periods each day, Monday through Friday. Many of the aquatic activities are done in double blocks of 1.5 hours. The list of daily activities includes the following: Archery, Arts and Crafts, Basketball, Camping Skills, Canoeing, Kayaking, Chess, Climbing Tower, High Ropes, Marine Biology, Mountain Biking, Photography, Rocketry, Sailing, Skateboarding, Soccer, Swimming, Volleyball, Water Skiing, Windsurfing, Yoga, etc…
Optional Program – Excursions:
The camp offers to international students an optional trip to a Shopping Mall in Providence. For groups, transportation to and from Boston can be arranged for a group tour under the supervision of a chaperon.
