Program Description:
You will spend the first half of the first week at camp in CT preparing for your trip to either Pennsylvania or DC. You will also begin to participate in a handful of leadership workshops. Once you depart for your community service adventure in Pennsylvania or DC, you will be privy to a variety of tasks whether it be helping to put up drywall, landscaping, painting, preparing meals for a large soup kitchen, sorting clothing donations, or even serving breakfast or lunch to the needy, and the list goes on. Upon returning from your trip, you will complete your last few leadership workshops and be able to put all of your experiences into perspective. What a way to spend three weeks of your summer! Spend time helping others and building self-confidence and leadership skills along the way!
The first session will travel down to Pennsylvania to participate in Habitat for Humanity of Lebanon County.
The second session will travel down to Washington DC to volunteer with shelters/soup kitchens.
Camp Description:
Located on 150 acres on Cedar Lake in Chester, Connecticut, the Camp (where students will be spending some of their time) provides positive youth camping experiences for over 1500 boys and girls each year. Group camping includes over 6000 participants annually. The Camp serves youth from throughout Connecticut, New England and New York, as well as many states around the country. Each summer it is also home to campers and counselors from more than 25 different countries. Campers come from all socio-economic backgrounds, and range in age from 5 to 18.
The Camp, which is the starting and ending points for this program, lies about 2.5 hours from both Boston’s Logan International and the New York’s JFK (and Newark) International Airports. It is 15 miles from the beaches of the Long island Sound.
